Fact
Lamar Jackson will not be a Tampa bay buccaneer. I know you’ve probably heard countless rumours linking Lamar to the bucs but it just can’t work , and here’s why.
Jackson and the ravens are reportedly one hundred million dollars apart in their negotiations , Tampa bay are about 30+ million dollars over the cap and this leaves them with really no right to discuss with Jackson as it’s likely they’d be able to offer less than Baltimore.
Opinion
I’ve seen lots of names thrown round but let’s look at it logically from Todd and Jason’s viewpoint. They have not yet employed an OC and don’t know how the offence will “run” next season so it’s likely they won’t cut anyone until they hire someone or find a QB if they don’t roll with trask.
Names to look at who could be cut are , Donovan smith (15 mil cap hit) , Cameron brate (5 mil cap hit) and WR Russell gage (12 mil cap hit).
Brate and smith both long time bucs but both now ageing and on big contracts for what they offer , gage on the other hand joined the bucs last season and really , really underperformed.
Rumour
Derek Carr in Tampa is actually not *that* unlikely. Carr , the multiple time pro bowler is currently boiling down his marriage with Las Vegas and he’s in need of a new home. Tampa bay , recently had their quarterback retire and are in need of a new one. It makes sense but there are some slight issues. Firstly Carr’s “team friendly” contract is everything but. Carr if he was traded to Tampa would be around a 35 million dollar cap hit , further adding problems to the bucs already abysmal cap situation. Next problem though could change this , Carr has a full “no trade clause” allowing him to decide if he wants to go to the team vegas want to trade with , if not the raiders can cut him after the Super Bowl for only a 5.6 million dead cap hit and he can then sign anywhere as a FA with a new contract.
